How's this for an impressive steel structure?! I'm very curious as to know whether any of the external 'nest-like' steel is actually necessary in the structural supports of the stadium. If it's just for aesthetic purposes then; "wowee!". It is incredible. The workmanship to go into this structure is amazing. Alone a country with an economy like China could do this. Not to mention their political agendas.
What interests me, is that the Sydney 'Home bush' Stadium sat 110 000 spectators when in 'Olympic mode' and now it seats 80 000 since the east and west seating has been removed. Yet the Beijing National Stadium will only be able to hold 91 000 spectators in its 'Olympic mode' with 11 000 of those being temporary seating!
I really love the design of this stadium but I would have liked to have seen them improve on the seat numbers. However, as a true Aussie; I'm proud to say that we had the biggest Olympic stadium in the world.
The aesthetics of this building are extremely pleasing and I very much look forward to seeing it in use at the upcoming Olympics.
